What is Rate-It?
Rate-It provides online rating and review tools for website owners to use to collect ratings and reviews for their products and services, and is also a place where public customers/browsers can go to see and compare how different products and services are rated.
For website owners, Rate-It provides free tools so that you can collect and display reviews for your products and or services. The widgets (the tools you get from Rate-It that you can put anywhere on your website)
come in many shapes and sizes and are fully colour customizable. You can also collect demographic information about the people who rate your items and view reports
about who likes what. Website owners can choose to install one widget per item (best for a few items, no geek required), or install the FlexiWidget, which is an easy one off
install that will handle you extensive and dynamic range of items (ideal for e-commerce sites, geek required).

For the general public, Rate-It is a website where you can find shared ratings and reviews from various websites, as well as ratings and
reviews for products and services that have been created on Rate-It by other users like yourself. With Rate-It, you not only see what people think of a product or
service, but you also get to filter the ratings to get an idea of what people like you thought of that item.
How much does it cost?
The short answer is nothing. It does not, and will never, cost to use the Rate-It rating and review system.

My website has thousands of items, and they change all the time, how does Rate-It handle this?
Rate-It offers a Flexi-Widget. When this widget is embedded on your website and is called up on an item page, it will automatically look in your Rate-It Catalog
for the relevant item. And if it does not find it (e.g. it is a new item or it hasn’t been registered by Rate-It yet) then it will simply create that item in
your Rate-It Catalog so that it is there for next time. Not only that, but the widget will also create the correct category and description
for that item so that your Rate-It Catalog always reflects your own website's catalog. Find more information on the Flexi-Widget here.
How do I get Rate-It on my website?
There are basically two ways to set this up:
- One way is to manually create your Catalog, Categories and Items, then insert a widget for each item on
to your website page for that particular item. This is very easy to do, but can be quite time consuming if you have lots of items.
- The other option is to use the Flexi-Widget. To use this you need
only set up your Rate-It Catalog and then install the Flexi-Widget on your website and the will proceed to build your Categories and Items for you. To do this
How am I protected against fraudulent reviews?
Reviews can be moderated by you and or people whom you select as administrators for your Catalog. Reviews
are not displayed until they are approved. When a user leaves a review they are asked for their email address (which is optional) and an
email is sent to that address to confirm their identity. This is all optional for the user, and regardless of whether or not they leave their address or validate
their identity, you will always have the opportunity to moderate all reviews before they go live. The validation of the reviewer provides reviewer authenticity
and a source to contact if you wish to question the content.
What if I don’t have my own website to embed the widget on?
You can use your Rate-It Catalog as a place to direct people to go to submit and read reviews for your items.
What if I already have a rating system and I don’t want to lose the reviews I already have?
There are many ways that Rate-It can help you with your ratings and reviews without sacrificing the valuable reviews that you have already collected.

My website comes with this feature by default, why should I use Rate-It?
Unlike like site-specific review systems, Rate-It provides websites with the ability to share their reviews, which helps you to quickly build a
larger database of reviews. Other features that site-specific systems are unlikely to provide include:
- Increases web traffic by having your reviews (and backlinks) available for Rate-It browsers
- Demographic components that let you identify how different people rate your items (do men prefer some items and women prefer others?).

What is a Widget?
A widget is a web-gadget that can easily be put almost anywhere and works without requiring any changes to your existing website. It is a snippet
of code that displays a gadget that interacts as if it were built on that very website. When Widgets are used they communicate with their
native server (Rate-It.co) which will then send and receive the information they need to display and collect.
